Odd...I was just thinking this myself..just today, and wrote a blog about a portion of it. Of course I am nowhere near as poetic as you are..but the basic premise is there.
The only thing is..how do we balance their needs, their desires with our own? We cannot allow people like that to harm us. Understanding does not mean we have to allow ourselves to be abused.
They need to become self aware, and work on their problems. Like the Hippocratic Oath..first, do no harm.

i don't accept hiding behind life traumas...but i do try to see past the facade some people create. often, i find that when i do - i see a much more vulnerable person and i am at least able to understand their behaviors.

Yes, understanding does not necessarily mean acceptance. I understand why serial killers do things, but I still want them locked up, and taken out of the gene pool.
