That is unusual, Pat. Maybe these ladies who buy them are sad because they are no longer able to give birth and the doll makes up for ir. Alfie...

Hi Pat: Wow I've never heard of that before, grown people buying lifelike dolls and carrying them around in public or pushing them in a baby carriage. It sounds very strange, but as long as the owners can handle what people think, I guess it would be o.k. to have one, but to take it out in public seems bizarre. The woman who makes them must be very talented as that one sure looks real. It would be a lot less work and expense than having a real baby or even a pet.

Over here many dog owners say papa-maman to their little dogs, the latter replacing human children in a way. I guess it'sd not as odd as I once thought.

Fantasy, transferred instinct etc.? Not sure but like Boogie I have seen it in many animals. It's just too bad humans could not find something living needing care to nurture. Maybe the dolls are a way to satisfy nurturing instinct without having to make an investment that may or may not be returned - Emotional insulation. Maybe fear of loss? The doll will not grow up, become a difficult teen or get old and die. Solitare - the grandma golden retriever at my residence never leaves her area without one of her "babies" (stuffed animals). in her mouth. Not sure if it is for her own emotinal security or if she doesn't trust us if she leaves them behind. Spiritwoman ^i^

WE don't know why some of these women have dolls like these apparently as replacements for their own. Where ARE their own children? Do some of these women need "help"?
