A MESSAGE OF FAITH

These are some important excerpts from the address of Ms Valerie Kaur.

Enter The Whirlwind:
Baccalaureate Address at Stanford University, 2013
VALARIE KAUR.

""TATEE VAHO NA LAGI-----PAR BRAHM SHARNEE"'

means .......

"The hot winds shall not touch me; I am sheltered by the Divine."

"If we drive ourselves into the ground, cover up our pain and pretend we are perfect, we embody the same dysfunction and neglect we seek to heal in the world. The way we make change is just as important as the change we make."

"I decided that the only way I wanted to make change was not with anger or fear but with love and joy."

"You don't need to be superhuman or super-smart to stand for what you believe in. You just have to keep alive the desire to do good – and refuse to lose faith when it matters."

I often offer such a challenge to those who tend to be all unsolicited talk and no action. It's really quite simple - just live as you believe and offer no explanation unless asked. If you are happy, content and serene many will want to know your secret and you will make a positive impact and contribution.

The more I look at every approach to the divine, the more I find is common amongst all of us.

Variations are essentially a product of the times (read social evolution) and the conditions otherwise prevailing. We gave different nomenclature and attributes to our heroes of faith.

My personal opinion is what I have stated above and I find that misleading lights, the clergy across the spectrum of religions, in our pursuit of the Divine who rely on the letter of the faith or scriptures rather than the spirit, have done irreparable harm to interfaith harmony and, therefore, humanity.

Sikhism, where Ms Valerie Kaur has picked up the quote from, was founded by the First Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev, essentially to eliminate the rancour that came to be created between Hinduism and Islam.

What Valerie has chosen to say also applies universally.

Many thanks to all my friends :

Rocketship - spot on.

MrsJoe - spot on again.

ET - indeed, a wise action oriented lady is Ms Valerie Kaur

GrandBluff - your observations are profound, indeed. It is the creativity in change derived through love and joy that gives permanence to the change for the spiritual and social betterment.

SpiritGirl - Yes re: thos who just talk only rather than do anything about what they talk. Indeed, live as we wish to as long as it is not intended to harm others in any manner, we attain the Divine.

Thanks again Everyone. Have a lovely day and Happy Eid if you or your friends celebrate it.
