General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently. Read his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and . Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you have to love this! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. In a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military Headquarters. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these when they visit your base? GENERAL COSGROVE:! We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it? GENERAL COSGROVE: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching ? GENERAL COSGROVE: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent killers. GENERAL COSGROVE: Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a , but you're not one, are you? The radio cast went silent for 46 seconds and when it returned, this interview was over. Thanks Jano (and Moot).  I definitely agree with your statement that we cannot believe everything that we read. I shall, however, check the origin of this and get back on this. If the statement, however, come from some other source, I shall put it down here and straight. All this, however. does not, in any way, undo the excessive and aggressive zeal of some members of the media who need to be given a 'Seven No Trumps' call sometimes. I went to Google this morning and this is what I came up with. The story attributed to Gen Cosgrove is apparently false. The original story seems to go back to 1997 and is reproduced in the Para below (as Snopes tells me), which, apparently, Moot was, gratefully, thorough enough to read. Thanks Moot. It may even be older is what my GUESS is. The story was also attributed to a Gen Reinwald later as would be apparent from what I have put below in parenthesis. "........... The "General Reinwald" story existed in joke form as far back as October 1997, when it appeared on a number of web pages in the following form: Excerpt from a recent live radio interview on one of the regional Welsh stations: A female newscaster is interviewing the leader of a Youth club: Interviewer: So, Mr. Jones, what are you going to do with these children on this adventure holiday? Mr Jones: We're going to teach them climbing, abseiling, canoeing, archery, shooting ... Interviewer: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible isn't it? Jones: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the range. Interviewer: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children? Jano482 was kind enough to point out that the story can not be attributed to Gen Cosgrove and she had gone on to research its real attributability which lay elsewhere.
