In my husbands company, 85% of his workers are black. I am a political creature, so I have discussed politics in great lengths with most of them. One of the first times we spoke, all of them had expressed concern about Barrack Obama, in becoming the nominee or the president, being assassinated, or an attempted assassination. These are great men, working class, some single, some with families. They are not all for barrack, there is a healthy mix between Obama and Hillary. most who support Hillary do so because they liked her husband, they feel she will continue on with his works. But overwhelmingly, the feeling is that an attempt will be made on his life. If this is the sentiment in the black community, that is why there is an out cry for Hillary to apologize for her Bobby Kennedy remark. She may not have meant it the way it is reported, but the facts are...there have been threats on his life, extra secret sevice have be assigned to him due to these threats. After all of the negativity in her ads and attacks she has made against obama, everything she says will be scrutinized. Whether it needs to be or not. There were plenty of other ways for her to say she should stay in till june or July or whenever. It may not have been deliberate, but i do think it was insensitive. kellyc aka saucy

Saucy both of my sons with Democratic leanings taught to them by their MOM do not believe he will be able to run our country or that this country is ready for a Black President! They are not Bigots! I too wonder? I personally am going to go on the record as supporting Hilary as I have to make a choice and for me she is preferable to Obama or McCain!

It is fair to say someone who would be president ought to have a very good sense of how to flap their lips while they exhale.Regardless of intent, one must be aware of effect.
Bush may not speak well sometimes, but imagine how he would be treated if he had said that.Wasn't it Trent Lott who went down because he said something at Strom Thurmond's birthday?
The double standard about what is tolerable has inluenced the balance between the parties.Everyone ought to play by the same rules.

Saucy,
Again you have made an intelligent statement. As i lived in the Washington, DC area for 42 years, where politics was the main topic of interest and conversation and I had friends who were on both sies of the political fence, and in the mainstream media, prevailing scuttlebut was that Hillary was a hothead, who could be vindictive and in the opinion of many - liberals and conservatives - was not trustworthy. So her comments are not out of character at all. Whether intentional or not, they represent a key indicator of her character and propensity to shoot from the hip. Policies aside, not whom I want in charge of the nuke button that resides at the White House. However, I see no one else that I want to be there as well. God bless the USA - we need it now more than ever.

In all fairness, she has made this statement before. She was making a point about still campaining in June. I would not vote for her because she is a woman, and I would not vote for Obama because he is black. They both have said the would like to inrease taxes, and for some strange reason their party likes to take money away from the people and redistribute and spend it themselves. Anyone out there every read Atlas Shrugged? You'd think it was written for today.

How is it a black man can't be president, He has the same qualities as a white man. William Clinton, Hillary Clinton were Rhode Scholars so is Barrack Obama and Michelle Obama. They all having the same educational background Hillary and Obama both Senators and they are all lawyers. Where is the short comings may I ask? Please people this 2008 not 1808. He might prove to be the best because of who he is and his background and experiences. But until he is given a chance we will never know. He certainly can't be any worse than some of the others we/you have elected.

Neither does Hillary have any experience and all she has said was take my foot out of my mouth for all the blunders and lies I've told.

this blog wasnt for or against anyone..it was just a statement. i think a woman could be a fine pre..just not this woman...i think a black man or woman for that matter could be a fine president..just not this man.. it wasnt about racism or sexism.. it was what i heard talking to different people. i personally dont like any of the candidates. but i do feel that it wont be hillary..it will be between obama and mccain.. i did hear on cnn that alot of her supporters are calling her to run independent which will definitely split the democratic party. it was also stated on cnn that obamas wife said heck no to a "dream ticket. will it matter to any of you if she accepts the veep position? will you vote for him then? kellyc aka saucy

I think she did apologize...I saw it in the headlines on the news on the computer last night.
I'm looking to the future and it's out of sight, only in the end shall I take flight.

Obama's wife is making the decision as to who is going to be his veep? Well, isn't that nice? After the remarks she has made? Finally proud to be an American? Oh my, glad she is Finally Proud!
I stand behind Hillary 100%. She was a very good friend of Bobby Kennedys and would never have used his name to suggest anything other than the fact that the candidates were still running for the DNC in June. Watch the video....you can tell it was only a comparison of the time, nothing more. This has nothing to do with any assasination attempt. I do believe anyone running for the office of President of the USA has to have the same threat hanging over them.
She has been harassed in every thing she has done. Nothing so blind as those that have eyes and cannot see.

I don't follow politics as much as I should. I do like to listen to the debates. I wonder "why" those women feel Obama will be shot? He's NOT Martin Luther?
Early on I was asked "who" did I think would win? I said a WOMAN will never be president. No man will ever accept that. When Shirley Chisholm was running for office she was asked if she thought that being " black" would have a negative effect and her answer was, clearly NO. I think being a woman does!
I think we don't really have any worthwhile choices. I clearly was impressed with Obama when he has concerns for the elderly and health care and other important issues. He's young and has a similar charisma as did John F. Kennedy. I still like him and think if he stays "true" to the concerns he has voiced he would be good. McCain, is too old and has been a womanizer. That leaves Hilary. She is not my choice either. She really has NO experience as in war, but she is riding on the shirt-tails of her hubby.
One thing I do find offensive is, that anyone would "not" vote for someone because of their "color." Perhaps in their next life they will come back in the same color that they disdain! I rest my case.

barbie, the men at my hubbys company feel that way because he is black and they feel that people may be threatened by him and his views. and that many people just arent ready to have a black pres. that is their words not mine. i would vote for colin powell ten times over anyone we have now!
dup, the michelle obama statement was reported on cnn, but just like you say they twist hillay and bills words. maybe they are twisting hers too? i dont know. i do know she rubs me the wrong way. but...i also think the because of his name and race and his fathers religion, he is at more of a risk than hillary or john mccain. would you vote for him IF he chose her as his running mate? reports are saying that bill is pushing for it.
mission yup she did, i get tired of the clintons apologizing for making statements like this over and over...dont either of them think before speaking? thats just my opinion!
jdavis, i do agree with what you are saying. i think a black man would do a great job, but i think we need to get past the black and white and just say..would this MAN (or woman) be good at it, and not just to elect someone to prove we arent sexist or racist. i too agree that bills time in the white house does NOT mean hillary is "ready from day one".
rich i have read that this wasnt her first time saying that. it just wasnt "caught" by the media. if there wasnt as much mud slinging.. maybe it wouldnt have been made into such a big deal. since the mudslinging has occurred, she will be scrutinized. for everything.
lori thank you for commenting! i do agree that we dont have a good candidate. for me it will all come down to who the running mates are. for the first time since i have been voting..i dont agree with any of em and wish we could start over.
jimhandy ty for your comment, i think they are all puppets, i just wish we were holding the strings.
wink ty for commenting. i agree with what you say. i have heard the same thing about hillary. i feel shes says what ever she can get away with, then cries, she was misunderstood or misquoted or she is tired. i hope god helps us out this time. cause we sure need it!
kno once again i agree with you. liberal media always paints the republicans and conservatives as bad people and in all fairness, now hillary is finding out what its like to be a republican where as the media is concerned!
LadyN i thank you for your comment! i do value your opinions, and i agree that i dont think he is ready to lead. but i dont think any of them are showing us they SHOULD lead lol. this time around it is going to be the least worse choice. will you vote for obama if hillary is his running mate? thanks all for your comments kellyc aka saucy

saucy: we seldom agree when it comes to political discussions, but I think you are exactly right in this blog....Obama has had death threats from day one, and this was not Hillary's first reference to Bobby Kennedy's assassination, as she has alluded to it in prior discussions...her aides asked her to refrain from future references which she did in subsequent speeches, but now she does it again...with the anti-Obama fervor alive and well here on SFF as well as in the general populace, it was poor judgment at best....bob

Saucy,
Of course the media twists words, but you said Michelle Obama made that statement and put it out here.
No,I would not vote for Obama if Hillary were veep. That will never happen.
I am not a prejudiced person, nor a sexist! I go by the person! I don't like several things about Obama....his sitting in a church and being fed the BS by his pastor, and then supporting his pastor, and next turning on him, his idea of Global poverty Tax, his lack of experience, his arrogant attitude, and I question where he is getting his money from?
I don't see race or gender.....I see the person! And I think that anyone that brings the race blame card into this election is living way too far in the past!!! I think we should all consider the candidates as an individual and not classify them by gender, religion, or race !
Hillary and Bobby Kennedy were great friends. Even an Obama supporter, Durbin, made the statement that Hillary was too good of a person to have meant it any other way than to have made the comparison of people wanting her to drop out this early in the campaigning.
I truly believe it is the news media that need to apologize for sensationalizing all of this and trying to make Hillary the bad person once again.

did you know that bobby Kennedy's "race for the white house" only began in march of 68? As a matter of fact, he had said he would not run against the incumbent as late as January of 68. He also tried to persuade McCarthy to drop out of the race (wow they still do that today) and when he wouldnt that was one of the factors for Kennedy to run. He was assassinated in June. So this wasnt a good reference to stay in the race. from what ive read, Bobby Kennedy wasnt an advocate of long and drawn out, the campaigns were sooo much shorter then .i think this one has gone on tooooo long lol. But it really doesnt affect mE since i am Conservative, its just my opinion.
