I went to my second or third medicall appointment, apropos of getting a laproscopic operation.
So far things are going remarkably well.

I had shot up to 401 lbs-the highest since 1997,when I nearly died....that was up North, before coming down here to la.
After getting the word from the nutritionist for the lap band program, they told me unequivocably I would get no help paying for the operation on Medicare unless I lost 30-50 lbs in 90 days.

My sister and her family said they would rather go ahead and take me to my appointments, seeing that I was comitted to the program, and was making more strides than before, and also for another reason, they dont want Mike the Minister involved in it anymore, since he lies and cops out conveniently and blames me and my family, and the dorctors and anyone else he can think of.
Today was my sister's first shot at taking me to my remaining(?) appointments-a thing I hadnt wanted to do,but she says she's okay with it.

Better yet....today I had some signs of real progress....if it continues.I LOST 30 POUNDS.
But I have to lose between 30-50 pounds at least,or the program still wont pay for the procedure, because in their estimation,if i only lose 100 pounds alltogether, theyd RATHER NOT.
So now I have to show them, and that means more exercise and lo carbs and low fats, which for me has been my most boring road to anywhere formerly.

many people here where I live arent at all aware of my success, and instead still seee a big huge guy...altogether oblivious that all they do all day is sit on their keister and dish out abuse whenever they see me.

But I cant worry about that. This time its all about me and my efforts with weight loss.
SO, I CANT REST ON MY LAURELS, as my mother used to like to say.

Teresa really deserves a large vote as far as the credits go,for the positive attitude and encouragement she's shown.

But I didnt know my family would help me,and THEY HAVE!

As for all you SFFers who've offered prayers and other encouragements,be sure,I appreciate every one of you!

Nobody is in your shoes and should not cast an opinion. I hope you have loving friends and family around you to make you strong and carry on!
I wish you all the strengths you need and enough love for your life so you can succeed! I wish you nothing but the best, good luck Pop!

Way to go Charlie! We are proud of the loss. Before you know it, you will be down down down in the weight department. Here's another one . Show those nasty neighbors what you did! Ann and Alfie (Hawkslayer)

There are some really good motivational and cook books with great healthy recipes. If you can go to your library you might find some to help you. Eating healthy is not boring. You will feel better too. Congratulations on your success! Yeah!! (They did a study on rats and fed them a fast food diet. They developed alzheimer symptoms from a high carb high fat diet) I'm afraid the only people fast food is good for is the owners of the business.

Popsie, if losing weight was easy everyone would be walking around a normal weight....Congrats for taking that trip down that long lonely road....It is great you are getting the family support you need, that does help, but in the end it is like you said, "it's got to be all about you and your weight loss efforts"....That is the only way losing weight works....YOU GO BOY

One more goal to keep in mind is that after you have the surgery it will be easier to lose the rest of the extra weight...I know from years past that it is much better to drop the lbs than to carry them everywhere you go...(I had the orig. type surgery which they don't do anymore and as a result I like to say that I left one person in Calif...lol)
Keep going and you will be much better...

Good for you Popsie! It is not an easy road, but YOU WILL walk it. There will be rocks, and holes in your path, but just like when we are driving down an old bumpy road in a car, we have to drive a little slower to maneuver around the pot holes and the larger stones so that we don't scrape bottom, or scratch the chrome. Some days will be smooth sailing, and you can speed up a little, other days will be journeyed with caution. If you happened to get off course, and hit one of those pot holes, don't get discouraged. If your wheels get out of alignment because of it, just quickly realign them and get back on the road.

I think the one struggle I have in my weight loss journey is dealing with the guilt. Sometimes I come to a place where I say to myself "what is is all worth?" "I screwed up again, so whats the use of trying" But, I then do some heavy self-talking about all the benefits I have experienced since I have lost weight, and the even more benefits I will have when I finally reach my goal, which is still quite a ways yet. Moving better, stooping better, better hygiene, sitting in a booth rather than a table at the restaurant, walking to my mailbox without getting out of breath, being able to look for a parking space at the end of the parking lot, rather than at the front entrance to the building, no longer having to use a cane, . ....... lots more, but I'd fill up your blog. Have you made your list yet? During the times you feel discouraged, sit down and write your list of things you can and/or will be able to do as you become healthier. Keep it handy to read as often as you need.

Remember, you have to do this for you. I'm rooting for you!

Hey 30 pounds is an amazing acomplishment and a good start. Keeping Going and let MS. Grouchy who don't like your singing eat all the fat stuff.

Don't concentrate on how far you still have to go,,,, look at how much you have accomplished! Yes, and don't sit on your laurels either, but be greatly encouraged by your success for far, as you push on for even more..... Soon, it won't be 30 pounds gone, it will be 35 pounds gone.... then 40..... just take it in small increments and rejoice with each few pounds that disappear!

And the hell with what the others say or think!

You're really doing well Charlie and I salute you for the efforts you've made. As you say, dont rest on your laurels, keep things going the way they are and you'll soon have shed the required amount for Medicare to pay for your op. Let Ola's words encourage you to reach your goal.

I SURE DO THANK YOU FOR ALL THE ENCOURAGING WORDS! WOW! WITH ALL YOU ROOTING FOR ME,I HAD JUST BETTER SUCCEED!
BUT EVEN BETTER,I M-U-S-T!

Teresa's asked me 100o's of time how all the weight happened in the first place-and I have to admit, along with my doctor, that "it's in my genes"

But I had gotten donwn to 168 in the VietNam war but then returned home where my Mom's cooking plus marrying a woman who only lived to sleep and eat shot me up to 450 lbs.

Then I came down here to Luzziane, and I still have a long way to go,as you can see.

But nwo I know what eating the wrong stuff can (and WIL do to me if I dont change my eating habits.
I was eating the WRONG things, and little to no exercise.

You go Charlie!!
That's wonderful!!!
And you know what's also wonderful? That you're able to get outta your chair and walk a bit. Remember, every step uses up calories!!!
