Treasurehunter put up a poll asking for hints to stay cool in this heat wave. My advice became too lengthy for a comment so I'm posting here.
Thanks for the idea David.

You will want to eat small meals more often and avoid high protein. Eating spicy foods improves circulation, causes sweating (ugh! not pleasant at first) but that is your bodies' natural cooling system. Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Drink chrysanthem, black cohosh or kombucha tea and lots and lots of water with lemon. Eat fresh fruit with yogurt. Eat salads and avoid using your stove or oven.

Run cold water or an ice cube over your wrists frequently. Take baths or showers in water just slightly lower than your body temperature. (Cold ones generate body heat to compensate for heat loss.) Place damp washcloths in sandwich size ziplock bags in the freezer. Place them on your face and wrists frequently. After bathing replace your moisturizer with an aftersun Aloe Vera product. Wear little or no makeup. Wear loose fitting, lightweight, light colored or white all cotton clothing. All cotton undergarments are best and boxers or tap pants allow circulation.

Sleep on a feather or down pillow with cotton pillowcases. Listen to cds of cool sounds like streams, ocean, rain. Keep your drapes drawn and lights low.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist to see if any medication you are taking is increasing heat sensitivity.

Places to go to stay cool: the mall, the library, a movie, swimming pool/lake/ocean, walking in the woods, or caving.
Move slow and easy.

Distract yourself with fun activities like visiting a friend's (air conditioned) house and talk about last winter, have a watermelon cutting, host a popsicle party, invite the neighborhood kids over and play under the sprinklers, have a Christmas in August event at a child care center/ nursing home or senior center, and in areas like mine where we so badly need it you can gather your friends and do a rain dance!!!

And remember....this too shall pass!

Quote,
"Wear little or no makeup"

I got that part down pretty good. Eating and drinking hot things are what folks who live in real hot places do. You know,Mexico,India. Seems the body gets hot and works to cool itself from inside.
On the other hand drinking iced things or cold refrigerated foods makes the inside of a person think the body's cold and compensates by heating up.
I got these theories from you and from another that served in a really hot place.

Thanks Linda,I will try them all. You're getting the same heat as we are so stay cool my friend.

Linda, Thanks so much for the ideas--seems this heat wave is everywhere! Last year at this time, we had blackouts in certain areas at certain times to help conserve power because of all the heavy usage. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that my air doesn't go out!

Yes sometimes summer season is quite depressing. Here also in my country, we experience the season of too much to take... and so we visit malls...open parks...beaches and other places that would surely "cool us down"...
