Boy Friend .......???

My 60 year old neighbor said to me, “ My mother is going to her boy friend’s birthday party today.”

“How old is your mother ?” I asked.
“87”
“ How old is her BOYfriend ?” I asked.
“89”

How do you feel about the term “boy/girl friend” used by seniors ?

What is the alternative? my gentleman friend, my bed partner, my weekend lover, the one I don't talk about, the man I am dating?????
I don't know what the cutting age is for boy friend, does have to end when you are 17?

Alfie (Hawkslayer) had a blog about what to call each other since we are not married but living together. We had lots of comments but never did come up with a name to introduce each other to others. It is still boyfriend/girlfriend. Ann

he or she?? as opposed to it???

eg he/she is taking me out to dinner. does he/she have a name even?

try to avoid using the term bf or gf in front of kids. the young ones kinda tend to barf if they see toothless gramps kissin! LOL no offense intended...its just the plain honest truth you guys!

As long as they don't care what term is used it doesn't really matter.. I'm not sure what I would call one.. if I ever get one I'll tell you then, mean while all my gentlemen friends are just that... friends..

Thank you all for coming.

Maynilabelle,
That's it, "no offense intended" ...just being plain honest.

Zan,
Eventhough I live in Hawaii, I guess am not Hawaiian enough to know what "ipo" means.---- Does that mean "buddy" ? Hey, "buddy" is not a bad one. Better than "BOY friend". What do you think ?

Rocketship,
I like your handle.

i had a smile at this one ~ our old shop was opposite a block of sheltered accomadation for the elderly , had similair chats with some residents over the years , man friend was popular so to girl friend / boy friend

my fave' was lillian 76 and walking with the aid of two sticks who refered to her hot lover, one thing was common with all the older residents who found romance or a close friend that is they felt alive and excited with life again

blackpool_bloke,

Of course it’s wonderful if we seniors could find companionship with the opposite sex. I was not trying to dampen the passion at all. It was just the habbit of using “bf / gf ” felt like we seniors' minds were "stuck" and incapable of removing something that's no longer appropriate.

Besides, sex is one & only component that separates a “ bf /gf ” from “just a friend”, is it not ? And sex appeal is no longer a centural theme in our connections with the opposite sex. A senior bf / gf is pretty much the same as a “friend”.

No big deal. Just a thought that popped up in a leisure afternoon. Have a good one.

It's about time to move our minds to a higher plane. Not to be stuck in boys & girls’ unrealistic mentality in relationships.
