Perhaps he is interviewing a baby sitter....

I voted for #1, and I'm glad you posted this comment. I would also add that when she asks him, she not assume he's necessarily "following" her. Rather, she should approach it as a question, and be cordial, as if merely wanting clarification so her mind doesn't begin seeing things that aren't really there. GBU, Gavin

If I was concerned about this situation, I would calmly confront the fellow. "It seems to me that you are trying to attract my attention. If so, is there something I can help you with?" ...".If I'm mistaken, please forgive me." btw: If the fellow is thinking of asking her out, there's really not much of an age difference between 40's and 50's.

I'm suggesting she be calm, friendly, and cordial about it. The reason I say that, is because if he senses that she's "confronting" him, there's a great possibility that he'll react defensively and deny it, even if he really is interested in her, and even if his motives are innocent. He may then even accuse her of being nuts, and possibly accuse her of being infatuated with HIM! I'm not a shrink, but I'm very well versed in psychology. I became fascinated with the field when I was in my teens, and from my early 20s almost to my 30s I obsessively read everything related to psychology I could find. I never cared to become a professional, but later, I earned my BS in Psych and graduated with high honors. GBU, Gavin
