Computer CleanUp Softwares

I paid Norton for one year and I still frequently get popups, such as SpyWare Doctor, advising me that my computer is infected. So I paid RegCure to fix it and I still get the same warning. Then I downloaded “free” Ad-Aware and then “free” Spybot and they again tell me that my computer is still infected. What do you do ?

Aloha: I am so very sorry to tell you this, but Norton is a program that will definitely make you sorry you ever spent the money - it does what's called "GOBS UP" our PC's. Also, it's VERY difficult to completely UN-install if/when you want to install a better/more efficient AV program.

The GOOD NEWS IS ... that there are several (or many?!!) VERY GOOD FREE AV and malware programs available online.

There's AVG - and that has both FREE and paid versions; many-MANY people use AVG.

I use an AV program called 'Blink', which is FREE for the first year - and after that isn't very expensive, I believe it's either $19.95/yr (or might be $29.95/year). It's EXCELLENT. You can find that at a site called EXACTLY as it's spelled here ---> eEye d-o-t com (I wrote it that way so that you'll know to take out the 'dashes' in case sff's computer-bots might come along and try to say I've advertised or some other word/term that sff's computer-bots don't "like"

Additionally, there are many FREE antispyware/antimalware etc., programs; actually, too many 'good/effecient/effective' ones to count! I believe you might do well to join on at Community Feedback - you can write blog-messages there, asking for what the Mgr's would recommend. Because --- Mgr's there are VERY computer-savvy and Internet-savvy.

Aloha, another 'also': I believe MANY other sff members will come to read your blog-message, and more than likely, will provide you with MUCH MORE/MUCH BETTER cues/clues than I've just written.

Best wishes to you in getting better/more efficient ways to deal with all that gobbledygook you're currently dealing with by using from Norton. (btw - once upon a time, long-long time ago, Norton was pretty good, and they made many $'s from folks who paid them big $'s - all in 'good faith'.) It's no longer even 'pretty good' - it's mostly simply a way to get a good computer all messed-up.

If you are traveling on the net to site
that are suspect and dangerous, then you
deserve to be infected.

I only go to Ya hoo, Sff and google. From
google I go to other places. I have a free
program. AT&t gives it free to their all
subscribers of high speed. It is McAfee.

I has never found any viruses, but sometimes
if I go to places like u-tube it will warn
me not to go to the site I clicked on as it
is a suspect site. So I don't go.

I have run my computer for years without any
software other that the Micro soft that comes
in the computer.

Much of the FREE things that are offered to
people might have some virus embedded in it.

If you can use Mozilla firefox then you would
very little chances as compared to Internet
explorer because the hackers focus on IE.

Again, Mozilla is Free. Why I don't know.
it is a great browser.

I have both on my computer. I run Mozilla all
the time. Once in a while I have to use IE on
my bank because my local bank sometime hasn't
quite got it together with Mozilla new versions.
IMHO

Snoopy says his typewriter has never gotten
a virus. I had a broken spring once.

Bye for now! Thank you!

You could try what my computer tech installed for me- FREE.
It is called "MALWAREBYTES ANTI MALWARE."
Just Google it and download it free.
Its on my desk top, and i activate it every time i do a disc clean up and a defrag, in my case , every weekend.
It stopped all those " dont proceed or you you will blow up " notices, which are CONS.
Im now trouble free, whatever it detects, if removes.

Hugs, Jan.

I also use *McAfee* Total Protection w/SiteAdvisor Plus. One CD will
protect up to 3 computers. I do have 3computers and installed it on all 3.

It protects your Home Network from online threats, online Security
from Identity Theft, Spammers and Predators. Has protection from Viruses, Hackers and Spyware. Backs up and Restores your Photos, Music and Files.

I have no complaints and have purchased it every year for the last 3 years. ....(It replaced my Norton)
All my computers are Dells. Hope this helps?

I only use mozilla firefox and norton...never any problems..also my router has firewalls that stop most virus's . i seldom use IE and i find yahoo mail stops most junk mail while MSN mail lets them through...when sending multiple emails use BCC instead of CC which will help keep your system private and secure...breakthru dot com is also an excellent email addy

I got McAfee with my new Dell computer. Then someone at the church I go to suggested I get Norton. It filled up my hard drive space too much,so when I got my system cleaned, the tech installed a free antivirus program called AVG.I no longer have problems with my computer.Thank God for that!

McAfee is around 39.99 for one computer. about 60.00 dollars for two AUG has a free problem for 30 days its a very good software at a good price. Norton's is a very big program about the same price as McAfee but load time is terrible

you dont need to pay for any of it , use the free editions like avg or ad-aware then use the registery cleaner available at live dottt comm ( for xp and vista } , its in microsoftes interests to have clean p.c's around the world

norton especially uses up lots of a p.c's memory when running much of what it says it does is superflorious , you just dont need it

some virus checkers require running at intervals others like AVAST dont need you to do anything at all as it will upgrade its self every 6 hours or so

( mail me if you would like the free to use live links )

I use Kaspersky. Had Norton previously, but everything I hear says Norton is a resource pig.

There's lots of free stuff out there to protect you computer. The only problem with free stuff is it doesn't get updated as frequently, and it may at times confict with other software.

I had Zonealarm for a while. On at least one occasion my internet access stopped working because of an incompatibility with something my ISP installed.

You need to un-install Norton. It will interact with other programs..and it changes the configuration of your computer without your permission..to suit itself. There is no reason to pay for programs like that. I use the avg free..it works. the malware program that is free that Jan advised will get rid of your pop up that is bothering you. Some of those things are very sneaky, they tell you that you have a virus, and you don't...the program telling you that you have one is the virus. Don't click on anything that you don't know what it is.

I have also use a free program called vcleaner....and one called crapcleaner. I download it from a place called file hippo. A lot of the things that say they are free..are NOT.

I share my computers with my daughter, and while she is a brilliant girl..computers are not her best thing...and she uses a lot of programs that are at best suspect...so I have extra things I do...to protect from worms, and viruses.

Thank you lovestouchingu ,

I am using firefox now. Norton uninstalled. Does Firefox give people free virus protection ? I can't find anywhere to click..
