The First REPUBLICAN that I ever voted for and he WON!!!

I was at our monthly Quaker potluck and we were discussing politics as usual.
I revealed that Nixon was the first Republican that I ever voted for. I was even a Nixonette. One woman expressed surprise that I voted for Nixon. Are you repentant? she asked. Naw, he was a nice Quaker man, I answered her. Reality is that I was there for the booze. They had the best parties at his campaign and I was only 19.

Later the discussion got into the merits of utilizing Magic Mushrooms for Spiritual Enlightenment . I mentioned going into sweat lodges and how some individuals used peyote for similar reasons. I was asked if I ever used peyote while sweat lodging. "Nope, when I made a commitment to give up booze - other mind altering chemicals went with it. I've had spiritual experiences WITHOUT it"

The challenge was trying to explain the concept of spiritual experiences to an atheist with a PhD. I am sure that he will eventually figure it out but I think tripping out on Magic Mushrooms is just a bunch of hoodoo spiritual make believe nonsense.

Just my not so humble prospective.

Nixon was the first one that I ever voted for because the 18 year had just gotten the right to vote.

Actually McGovern was a bad azzzzz WWII pilot. I come from a Military family and had I done my research, McGovern would have gotten my vote. McGovern was of the opinion that WWII was just but Vietnam was not. Nixon actually joined the Navy despite his Quaker upbringing but never saw combat. Vietnam did finally end under his watch but left the South Vietnamese vulnerable.
