As I write this, I am waiting ….. time waits for no one, right? I thought a picture of my kitchen clock would be a good subject for this foto Friday theme. Little did I know that “time” would be a major factor in the whole scheme of things today, and this picture is more than appropriate.

First, let me give you a little history about this clock. Anyone want to take a gander at how old it is? Well, I got it second hand myself back in 1971.
My friend Jim had got his orders for Ft. Lewis, Washington, and he and his wife were selling a lot of their household items. This clock just hollered at me to take it. It blows me away that it has graced my kitchen walls for 38 years! You’d think I’d have grown tired of it by now, but I still like it. Besides, it won’t be too long and I should be able to call it an antique, right?
Now for the significance of the clock today in reference to “time.” This morning (Thursday) when I went to sign on the internet I kept getting this message that the server could not be found. “Hmmmm,” I said, “what’s up with this?” Then I tried to make a phone call, and my phone had no dial tone. I was beginning to feel a small sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I turned on my T.V. and all I got was snow and that horrible loud obnoxious sound that comes when there is no connection. My greatest fears were coming true. No Cable! That means, No T.V., no phone, and horrors upon horrors, no internet! I quickly called my cable service and was informed that a tech would not be able to come out until the next day, but thankfully, before noon. (We’ll see) I thanked her, laughed and said “Okay, I think I can get through this.”
Well, I did survive. It wasn’t easy, and it was sure an eye-opener for me. The weather wasn’t all that great, so I didn’t want to pass the time running around in the rain. The good news is that when going through some of my cd’s and dvd’s looking for something to play on my computer, I came across a couple of Hoyle game disks that I didn’t realize I still had. They had not been loaded up onto my computer when I got the new one. Well, hurrah, I loaded them onto my computer and voila, I had some new games to play to pass the time. I also watched an old, old movie with Nick Nolte in it. I couldn’t find info on the date of the movie, but his part was very small, so I figured it must have been one of his first.
The tech arrived this morning, even earlier than anticipated, and just as I thought, the problem stemmed from all the rain we had the past couple of days. No charge to me, thank goodness. It’s a quiet world out there without T.V., phone and internet! However, I think its time I began to wean myself a little so it’s not such a shock to my system when/if it happens again!

Well I took time out to look at all the photos because a main water line broke on the street....NO water....so lots of time [notice the play on word] on my hands.
It sure is a quiet world without electricity and I remember way back when times...

The picture of the clock is beautiful Ola. I dont think you will be successful in weaning yourself off the internet, phone etc. Maybe for a day or so!!! and then back to normal.

Ola/Karen: Pretty likely you realized the play-on-words of "Still Life" - on - the Day the Cable Died. Yep - life certainly was still for that time the cable was dead, eh?
I soooooo LOVE that clock; it's almost exactly like one that one of my fav aunties had - but it 'was disappeared' by somebody while she was very ill and away from home for along time several years before she passed.
If anyone who reads this EVER sees a clock like that at an antique or thrift shop, PLEASE let me know and I'll send the money for someone to purchase the clock and send it to me via USPS or FedEx.
Just looking at that clock, whether or not it was 'keeping time' - would give me a BIG **SMILE**. (who can ever keep time? it goes on and on and on, and we can't ever 'keep' it, eh? ... ... ... ...

Yeppers. I still have some harvest gold and avocado green items. Can't seem to part with them.
