FOTO-FRIDAY RECREATIONAL - My Joy Boys

As some of you know, I wasn’t blessed with motherhood. Therefore, as a result, I have all this bent up nurturing instincts in me that have had no place to be released. In my 20’s and 30’s I did have an outlet by way of friends who would let me take their kids for a few hours (to their relief) and I’d either take them back to my place for fun and games, or we’d go to the zoo, or the park for a picnic. My niece and nephew were around for only a few years in their very young years, so I wasn’t able to shower them with much nurturing either.

Thus, the story of my current favorite recreational activity has to do with being able to use up some of that stored up nurturing. I have developed a very nice friendship with a guy who has three grandsons. The oldest two are five and three, and they take turns staying overnight at their Papa’s house on a regular basis. Papa also brings them to church every Sunday for Sunday school, which they really love. The first time I met them, I had gone over to visit my friend and both boys were there. It was instant love on my part. I like to think it was on theirs too. I was sitting in the kitchen talking to my friend as he was preparing dinner and the youngest boy, Ayden, walked over and stood next to me. The next thing I knew, he had laid his head on my lap and I wrapped my arm around him and held him close to me. Talk about melting the heart. I was hooked right then and there.

Through the last couple of years, I have been invited to join in family bbq’s and outings, and even went on a camping trip this past summer. I hug and love on these two little boys, and enjoy every minute of time that I get to spend around them. Nothing tugs at my heart more than to hear them say “I love you Karen” or to have them run up to me after Sunday school to hug me and sometimes show me some piece of artwork they created that day.
The oldest, Ebin, started kindergarten this year, and yesterday I got to cheer on the sidelines as he participated in his schools cross country events. So far he has received two ribbons!

They have absolutely no clue as to the affect they have on me. I call them “My Joy Boys”

That's a wonderful story Karen.. you're lucky you found them to love and they are extra lucky to have found you. There is nothing like the love from a child!!!

Yes kids can be a wonderful form of recreation as I am walking to school each morning with my G/F and 2 of her GG's and another in a stroller and a couple of neighborhood kids we have been dubbed by the crossing guard the Biker Gang! Glad yo have your Joy Boys to enjoy! Great recreation!

Karen, the love of a child is unconditional. He or she doesn't care if you're old, ugly like me, crippled with arthritis, or whatever. They sense the love from you and reflect it back in spades. Is it any wonder that one of the great joys in my life has been when I played Santa for a child? My new daughter is now in a motherly way, and Sandy and I will be there when she gives birth, and I'm here to tell you that that baby will receive all the love I can dish out. Great story and wonderful photo. Thank you so much. Mike

Children are what keep us young and the love of a child is so very precious. You look very happy and content.
