Nashville Bash Deadline Approaching... Apr 19, 2007 6:43 am
Mood: cheerful, 464 Views
Things are warming up in Tennessee. Through my window on the world I see a brilliant blue sky, sunshine that beckons me outdoors and flowers blooming all around.

Just nature's way of preparing for the guests arriving next month for the Nashville Bash.

If you are planning to come but don't have all the details of who, what, when, or where please contact me at 1942classic.

The deadline mentioned above refers to sending your registration fees and dinner reservations.

On May 1st I will be confirming reservations for dinner for Friday night, May 11th. If you are joining us at the Caney Fork Fish Camp that evening you need to send your check or money order to reach me in time to be included.

And the $10.00 registration fee is being used to take care of the hospitality room costs, name tags and other incidental expenses.

The guest list is fantastic and can be viewed at
nashvillebashdotorg. Come add your name and join us for a wonderful down south weekend.

There are also T-shirts being sold at $15.00 each with all profit going into the "To Paris With Love" fund. We need those orders ASAP for the shirts to be made in time for the BASH. Contact FooledOnce51 here in SFF for arrangements for paying and delivery.

I can hardly wait to see you and you and you and all the rest of you!!!

I HEAR LARA LAUGHING... Mar 29, 2007 11:40 am
Mood: irritated, 559 Views
...From way down the hall.

This is her first week with my physical therapist, and her last rotation as a student before graduation.

Monday when I arrived Lara seemed so quiet and sweet I couldn't imagine her being tough enough to get the job done.

Tuesday she began to get more involved with patients.

Wednesday I had no therapy appt. as it was time for me to see Dr. G. BTW, he gave me a set of photos from the surgery-weird- and said I am progressing nicely. I won't see him for another 4 weeks.

Today I met the "real" Lara. OOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!
I finally had to tell her..."I am a fighter but I also am smart enough to know when it is time to ease up!!!" as she insisted I continue another 2 sets of 20 repeats of a stretching exercise when I had already done 5 sets.

So to get back at me, sneaky girl, she took forever measuring my range while I stayed in position at the very farthest extension I could muster, muscles quivering and tears flowing.
Michael finally had to tell her to let me relax while he "re-taught" her how to do the measurements.

Needless to say, I am extremely sore and shaky this afternoon.

IT'S APPROACHING MIDNIGHT... Mar 28, 2007 9:14 pm
Mood: contemplative, 693 Views
...and through my window the unfamiliar lights of the city look like stars scattered across an expanse of black velvet.
That is a unique perspective. What would it be like to fly above the stars flung across space?
Truly a God's eye view.
Just imagining it gives me a feeling I can not find a word for. Akin to freedom, but more than that.
Released! That's it! Released from the cares and pain that have had me trapped.
I revel in this imagined world, where I am flying, floating so high above the earth that all its noise and hurt and nonsense can't touch me.
A cool breeze toys with the fragrant Persian Lilies on the window sill and caresses my weary body.
I am reminded that I still have responsibilities back in the prison of reality.
I quietly send kisses into the night.

I'M LOOKING FOR A T-SHIRT DESIGN Mar 27, 2007 7:17 pm
Mood: curious, 604 Views
I've been noticing how many folks are enjoying the new bling feature as well as how many artists of one kind or another we have in SFF.

While thinking about the upcoming Nashville Bash I wanted a souvenier t-shirt from the event. And a while back it was suggested we have some made up to sell with the profits going into a love fund for Paris. Several people showed an interest in the idea so I have arranged with an SFF member to produce some for us.

Now we need an attractive design. So how about making it a contest?

If you would like to submit a design for the bash souvenier t-shirt - post it in a blog here in SFF and we will vote on our favorite. The winning artist will receive a finished t-shirt as their prize.

The submission should be a clear, black and white drawing that could be enlarged and used as the template for the shirt.

The main elements should be NASHVILLE BASH 2007, a
western style hat and boots. An optional element could be an eiffel tower and "TO PARIS WITH LOVE"

You can submit an original drawing as long as it can be enlarged and used as a template, or a unique arrangement of clip art.

The finished shirts will be black with the design printed in gold.

I am excited about seeing your ideas!!!

IS NO MORE... Mar 25, 2007 11:14 am
Mood: excited, 707 Views
Due to recent events Nonnie's Front Porch is no longer open. Please continue to journey with me
THROUGH AN OPEN WINDOW.

My surgery on Thursday March 15th was successful.
I am now going to physical therapy 3 days weekly and it is brutal. I was embarrased to have people see me cry, but was reassured by a young fellow half my age and twice my size who said "Go ahead yell and cry. All of us have at one time or another."

I have also moved from my little country home to an apartment in town. Therefore my views of the world will come through an open window. I hope you will continue to visit me often. Right now I am very lonely and the pain limits my attempts to overcome that.

I am thrilled that even tho my recent absence set BookBabes on its ear, those marvelous women have taken charge of the situation and we will meet today at 12noon Pacific, 1pm Mountain, 2pm Central and 3pm Eastern in the BookBabes Group Chatroom. The topic of today's discussion will be how to prevent a similar problem in the future.
BookBabes Rock!!!

The Nashville Bash dates are fast approaching and I am soooooo looking forward to it. By then I will be all healed and able to drive again. Or as Greatsmile put it "dosey do with the best of them!"

Just a reminder to those who are planning to come but haven't made reservations...they must be made by April 7th. Our original block of rooms have nearly been booked but I was assured the hotel would continue to honor the discounted rate until April 7th as long as they had rooms available.

The Hotel is GuestHouse Inn on Music Valley Drive. Phone is (615)885-4030. Our contact person is Patty and the code for the special rate is SENIOR. Rooms are $81.00 plus tax per night for 2 queen beds. Rollaways are available.

I think there are still some people looking for someone to share a room and the cost. Belle La Donna says her friends share 3 to a room which makes it very affordable.

There is a shuttle from Nashville Airport (BNA) to the hotel and everything that has been planned so far is within walking distance of the hotel.

Some folks have expressed an interest in going to the Grand Old Opry. For that I strongly recommend you get your tickets and transportation from the hotel and back through Grayline Tours. Their number is 1-800-251-1864.

Our itinerary, which is of course optional, follows:
Thursday Meet and Greet in the Hospitality Room
Settle in
Dinner as you choose with your friends
Entertainment in the hotel lounge

Friday Complimentary continental breakfast
Meet and Greet in the Hospitality Room
Checking out the hotel amenities-pool,
jacuzzi and area attractions
An early dinner at the Caney Fork
Fishing Camp 4;30pm
Those going to the Opry will be
leaving between 6 and 6:30
For the rest the hospitality room will
be open for karaoke, making
nominations for the "dates" to be sold
in the White Elephant Auction on
Saturday and lots of other activities
Entertainment in the hotel lounge

Saturday Complimentary continental breakfast
Meet and Greet in the Hospitality Room
Hanging out and having fun with the
group
White Elephant Auction concluding with
The date night auction
Dinner and dancing at the Nashville
Palace with prizes for the best
Country Glam costumes and best dancers

There are T-Shirts available at $15.00 each. Orders should be placed with Fooledonce51. T-shirts can be mailed if desired or picked up at the Bash. If you need yours mailed you will also pay the postage. All profits will be added to the "To Paris With Love" fund.

Michianared is in charge of the White Elephant Auction. Please contact her with your donations of items to be auctioned. This will also benefit Paris. Again, your participation is strictly optional.

Some of us will arrive early on Thursday to decorate the hospitality room. You are welcome to join us if you are a hard workin', easy goin', true country music lover. We will welcome the help!

Doggone, I told you I was lonesome. I have darn near written a book. Hope you took time to read all of this and will come to Nashville in May!!!

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES..... Mar 9, 2007 11:18 pm
Mood: courageous, 839 Views
Amazing what you can accomplish in a day when your world falls apart and you realize you are totally on your own.
Early morning March 7th I was a happy, hardworking individual with a couple of blips on the screen of the immediate future. Nothing major really. Just a couple of things to get through. The first being a surgery. This involved the usual tests and lab work. But because of my unique job situation there were some other considerations; like where I would stay during my recovery and how the finances would work out. But I had talked to people who have had this surgery and didn't see anything I couldn't manage. I expected a 6 week recovery period and had made calls to find a room I thought I could afford.

Mid-morning March 7th that perspective changed drastically. Dr G. told me that not only was my expectation of a 6 week recovery totally out of the question, He recommended that I not return to my present job at all!

To make a job change means that I also would have to find a place to live. For the past 7 years I have had my housing provided by the agency where I work. With the job eliminated the housing would be gone also.

In my typical fashion, I wallowed in self-pity for an hour or so, then got busy working on solutions. Thought I had it all figured out. Thought I had a plan and a future.

Then someone pulled that rug out from under me as well. Sometimes life just seems too hard to even want to go on.

I can now understand in a way I never could before how people can drop into a depressed funk and just not function any longer.

Thank God for His grace, His mercy and His total peace! My despair lasted a few hours but suddenly it dawned on me that I had a whole lot to do and not much time to do it....and God was leading the way.

Within a period of 5 hours I found a new place to live in a place that it usually takes months to get into, retired from my current job effective in April with an income I can manage and started a whole new life.

Now my greatest chore will be finding furniture for my new apartment and getting moved before next Thursday.

I will agree with Volleyball Granny...Life is good. It is very, very good. And our God is an awesome God.

FIFTEEN DAYS AND COUNTING..... Feb 28, 2007 8:00 pm

I have surgery scheduled March 15th to repair a torn rotator cuff. Not a big deal really but such a long recovery period my doctor tells me.
What a bummer! Recovery will use up all my vacation time and sick leave but since I won't be able to drive I will be stuck in town instead of on a warm beach soaking up the healing rays.
The upside is that I will have it all over with and be back in full swing for the Nashville Bash in May.
I am really looking forward to seeing lots of you there. With those who have already committed we are going to have a wonderful group which means there will be a lot of fun things going on.
If you haven't seen the website yet drop me an email here in SFF and I'll get the details to you.
For those who have already signed the guest book, many thanks to you. I will be updating the site by the first of next week with more details.
If you have specific questions or feel I haven't covered all the bases please let me know. I have planned events before but never here in SFF and I want to get this right so we can all have a truly terrific time.Check out recent blogs by Michianared and Fresh Emerald too. They have some info about a special event dedicated to our Precious Paris!

WHEN I WAS YOUNG AND BRAVE... Feb 1, 2007 8:47 am
Mood: curious, 952 Views
I never spent a lot of time considering hazards, contemplating consequences, mulling over mishaps, being afraid.

In midlife I began to be more cautious but rarely allowed caution to stop me from reaching out for what I desired; it just slowed me down a bit.

But lately, Hmmmm, something has happened and I'm not sure exactly when it started or how.

I have a list of things I "think" I want to do, to be, to have. For the first time I can remember, I am apprehensive. I am spending TOO much time thinking, analyzing, considering possible negative outcomes;this has caused me to stop progressing.

Twenty years ago, my daughters, one son-in-law, one grandson, and a family friend came to visit me at the apartment complex I managed. While they were there we played an amusing game.I can't remember what it was called but one of the challenges was to name the person who was most likely to ******** (the categories changed with each round) and points were scored by the number of agreeing answers. When the challenge was to name the person most likely to skydive and why you thought they would, I got the most votes. The general answer as to why this group of young people thought it would be me, was that they saw me as one who appeared fearless, and open to new ideas and activities.

Now the pendulum seems to have swung to the opposite extreme, and I am stuck there.

I would have thought, with all the problems I encountered and hard knocks I endured during the years of fearlessness (or foolishness),that I would have become more balanced in my thinking and seeking.

But I would never have believed I would reach this stage; unmotivated inertia.

I WANT to return to young and brave! Of course it is impossible to recapture physical youth, but there must be a link to mental and spiritual youth that I can click on. Perhaps with this as my newest goal, added to the accumulated wisdom borne of previous pain and suffering, I can be brave without being rash and ridiculous.

Have you faced a similar hurdle as you have aged?
What lifted you above and over, to continue achieving a life filled with possibilities and joy?
