Don't Get Around Much Any More, but I wasn't sleepy and thought I'd drop by for a while. Thinking about the "TATOO CONTEST" Red has talked about had me watching LA Ink tonight. My initial reaction to tatoos was ewwwwwwww! As I watched however I became interested in the stories of those individuals who were having them done. Still don't think I would want something permanently tatooed onto my body but I have to admit-some folks have engaging reasons for having them. What struck me most though was the young lady called Cat VonD, a tatoo artist who has started her own shop in Hollywood. Her way of life would be totally foreign to me(probably most of us) but her committment, ability, focus, hard work, vision, and love are truly amazing for someone so young. Made me want to get up and get busy on my latest "What If" plan. Ya just never know where your next inspiration is coming from do ya?

REFINING SILVER...

There was a group of women in a Bible study on the book of Malachi. As they were studying chapter three, they came across verse three, which says, "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." This verse puzzled the women, and they wondered what this statement meant about the character of God.
One of the women offered to find out about the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible study. That week the woman made an appointment to watch a silversmith at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest in silver beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.
As she watched the silversmith he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot-then she thought again about the verse, that He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.
She asked the silversmith if it were true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver is left even a moment too long in the flames it will be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?
He smiled at her and answered, "Oh that's easy... when I see my image in it."
As we are experiencing trials today, perhaps God is holding us in the fire to purify and refine us. And if that is true, I know He is keeping His eye on us and will take us out of the flames of tribulation before we are destroyed. How will we know when we are fully refined? When the world and God can see His image in us.

I am reading an interesting book on improving relationships and came to a place where it asks: What 5 words would you use to describe yourself? What 5 words do your acquaintances, friends and family use to describe you? And finally, are those descriptive words the same;and if not, what do you think makes the difference?
I thought it might be fun to share this information with and about each other. I know many of us have never met, but we have some pretty strong opinions of each other, based on what we have seen of each other in chat, blogs and the magazine.
The 5 words I would use to describe myself are spiritual, creative, compassionate, focused and peaceful.
What do you think?
And how would you describe yourself?
I'm looking forward to reading your answers and sharing my thoughts with you.

BEAT THE HEAT...

Treasurehunter put up a poll asking for hints to stay cool in this heat wave. My advice became too lengthy for a comment so I'm posting here. Thanks for the idea David.
You will want to eat small meals more often and avoid high protein. Eating spicy foods improves circulation, causes sweating (ugh! not pleasant at first) but that is your bodies' natural cooling system. Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Drink chrysanthem, black cohosh or kombucha tea and lots and lots of water with lemon. Eat fresh fruit with yogurt. Eat salads and avoid using your stove or oven.
Run cold water or an ice cube over your wrists frequently. Take baths or showers in water just slightly lower than your body temperature. (Cold ones generate body heat to compensate for heat loss.) Place damp washcloths in sandwich size ziplock bags in the freezer. Place them on your face and wrists frequently. After bathing replace your moisturizer with an aftersun Aloe Vera product. Wear little or no makeup. Wear loose fitting, lightweight, light colored or white all cotton clothing. All cotton undergarments are best and boxers or tap pants allow circulation.
Sleep on a feather or down pillow with cotton pillowcases. Listen to cds of cool sounds like streams, ocean, rain. Keep your drapes drawn and lights low.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist to see if any medication you are taking is increasing heat sensitivity.
Places to go to stay cool: the mall, the library, a movie, swimming pool/lake/ocean, walking in the woods, or caving. Move slow and easy.
Distract yourself with fun activities like visiting a friend's (air conditioned) house and talk about last winter, have a watermelon cutting, host a popsicle party, invite the neighborhood kids over and play under the sprinklers, have a Christmas in August event at a child care center/ nursing home or senior center, and in areas like mine where we so badly need it you can gather your friends and do a rain dance!!!

And remember....this too shall pass!

...And kiss me once again, It's been a long, long time.
Did that get anyone's attention?
Good.
Leave me a message here or in the SFF message center! We'll arrange a time and place! LOL
Just kidding!
Just wanted to let you know that I am going back to standard member for a while. Some things going on here (meaning locally) that require my full attention and no point paying for time I can't utilize to the fullest.
I will be checking in when I have the chance. And my intentions to be in St Pete have not changed. I have my sock hop outfit, rental car reserved and budget worked out. Hopefully things here will be settled long before the Bash dates.
Also, some of you have been asking about another Bash in Nashville next spring. I'm planning on trying it again if I can count on plenty of you to be there. So let me know your thoughts on this.
Here's hugs for all of you! Take good care of each other and when you have time and the inclination send me a wink or a message so I can stay in the loop!

For many years I have had flower gardens. This year it hasn't been possible. I really miss the gardening. I have enjoyed hearing from all of you who have been sharing your gardens with us. Maybe next year will be different. But until then I hope you will continue to tell us about your gardens.

.....and I am losing myself in music. Health problems, legal confusion, world conflict, family and friend concerns. So many things I can not control. But this I can; Pop in a cd, turn up the volume, sing along, spread paint on canvas, finish with a prayer of thanksgiving. What do you do when the world starts closing in on you?

INTRODUCING MY NEW.....

GRANDPUPPY!!!
Her name is Pearl, a miniature poodle. Pearl weighs less than a pound. At six weeks of age she is nothing but a puffy ball of peach fluff with black shoe button eyes. And every ounce of her is absolutely adorable.
Back when I moved into this apartment a friend sent me a beautiful arrangement of flowers that had a tiny white Teddy Bear attached. Yesterday when we brought Pearl home we found she is exactly the same size.
My daughter Lynette is a dog groomer and the manager of a grooming salon for PetSmart, who has plans to have her own salon later on as well as breeding poodles. She already owns a beautiful standard poodle named Honey who will be bred for the first time in September.
Honey is the hit of many of the "Puppy Parties" they have at PetSmart. She has been dyed pink or lavender with matching toenails and coordinating bows. Honey can do tricks too; like jumping through hoops, dancing on her back legs and the usual "play dead", "roll over" and etc.
Pearl is part of this plan but it will be a couple of years before she will be bred. Until then she will just be our Babydoll.
Most days Lynette will take her to work with her but on Saturdays she is too busy for that to be a good idea. Soooo, I GET TO PUPPY SIT!!! Can you tell I am excited?
If you happen to be in the area let me know. Pearl and I would love to invite you over for Tea and doggy biscuits!

CORTISONE......GOD BLESS THE DISCOVERER

On March 15th I had surgery for a significantly torn rotator cuff. (My doctor's exact words.) On the 19th I began physical therapy to regain my range of motion and strength. I had been told I would probably be in therapy for 12-14 weeks, would probably regain 90% function and the excruciating pain I had been suffering for months would slowly dissipate.
For 14 weeks I have been faithful in atending therapy and doing my best to do everything that was asked of me. Unfortunately I have not regained the function I had expected and although the pain has lessened somewhat it has been constant. That made visits with friends and the May Bash really difficult. Depression was descending in a cloud; if not black, definitely dark gray.
Today I went back to see the surgeon for my third follow up visit and he and my therapist agreed that I have more pain, less range of motion and less strength than I should have at this point. The reason they feel this is true is that my body just naturally produces more scar tissue and adhesions than is ordinary.
I heard this with ominous forboding. Wondering if I would always have this pain, never be able to use my right arm freely again made me feel sick and that cloud grew darker still. I know Dr G. has operated on others to cut adhesions but I wondered if that wouldn't just give rise to still more. You know that helpless, hopeless feeling you get at a time like that?
Then he said, " I want to try something else if you are willing. I want to give you a shot of cortisone. That can help soften that adhesion and relieve the pain and soreness."
I was concerned as I had taken cortisone orally for asthma and allergies years ago and had a psychotic reaction. Sure didn't want to go through that again.
Dr G. reassured me that an injection would not affect me like taking it orally. So I said let's do it.
The cortisone was mixed with a numbing element and for the first time since August 2006 I am not in pain.
I have thanked and praised God and if the person who discovered the properties of cortisone were available I would thank them with exceeding joy! Cloud has lifted and I feel human once again!!!
