 I'm sorry things have shifted for you and your dear friend. I hope you can keep seeing each other even though less often. Skype sounds like a good idea.

I have a friend with limited mobility who is also a very good Scrabble player. She plays it on her Kindle with her long-time friend who lives an hour south of her.

 You will miss your friend but I agree with myseek about Skype. It worked well for me when I had a long distance relationship keeping on regular contact with my friend when I was here and my kids when I was there.
