Ha ha Earthy....I don't drive long distances either anymore or at least not by myself. I think as a woman you are taking chances driving by yourself long distance on the highways. I feel like I am a sitting duck. There are so many loonies out there now and hey we have them in Canada too!

ET, my thoughts are with you...but I think you are doing exactly the right thing by flying. Might it be a good idea to take a travel pill? Nowadays you can buy some made with ginger that don't make you drowsy, but do calm nausea and butterflies! I used to use them when I made long journeys.

I love flying for long distance, one hour in a plane is a day's driving in a car. Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

[SIZE 4]ET, be of good cheer, the new planes are great. I flew with Norwegian to Oslo and was amazed at the decent seating and general confort. I am far from fond of flying but just read a book and enjoyed the view when there was one. No way I could drive from here to Oslo in less than three days. Enjoy.

I had never flown until I married Joe, and have now done it a few times........ but I still do not like it and don't think I will ever do it again. My daughter in CA has to fly occasionally and she really gets worked up over it, every time. She talked to her doctor and he gave her a prescription for Ativan. She used to always take Benadryl because it makes her sleepy, and now she actually takes both a few minutes before boarding and is usually asleep by take off. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Add to Listo's list "motion sickness"! My doctor writes me a prescription for 3 Xanax - he says you need to be conscious in case of an emergency! So once I am in the terminal I take a Dramamine and a Xanax. I always request an aisle seat so I can't look out the window (my imagination works overtime). I also play a little game with myself as we take off - I am on a bus going up a very steep hill. It works great for me. The down side is not being able to take advantage of a stiff drink. The upside is going to Disneyland and enjoying the rides while under the influence of the Dramamine and Xanax. Have a good trip! P.S. Don't forget your red hat....lol

I have claustrophobia and have never been on a plane so I can understand fear of flying. I hope you will be o.k. Earthy and wishing you courage and strength. Keep us updated.

I prefer the train but will be flying to Atlanta for the holidays. Last year, I took the train with my younger son and all he did was carp and complain because of a long layover. I find flying more aggravating then scary. They charge more and give less. When the flight attendance starts announcing meals for purchase, I think "how pathetic" but it's only a few hours on the plane versus several hours by train. I don't do long distance driving because I don't want to be broken down in bum firetrUCK, South Carolina or worse.

Flying is still the better way to go. Although they can cancel a flight in a minutes notice. That happened to me in September. I then had to decide if I wanted to wait several hours for the next flight they booked me on or find an alternate way to get to my destination. Luckily my relatives drove for an hour and a half to pick me up. That isn't always possible. So those kinds of situations take the joy out of traveling via flying.

Awe, ET. nothing to fear, all will be fine. How many hours flight from Wisconsin to Phoenix? Going home to Italy is a long flight. Phoenix to New Jersey is 3 hours and a half then New Jersey is nine and a half hour. Have a nice trip and we will meet you when you will be here. Can't wait to meet you, lady! Ranger, how true.... so many people feel that way since 9/11. I have a girlfriend whose daughter travels the world on business, particularly to Europe & the Far East. The mom is a basket case while her daughter is away! Personally I've only been travelling in Canada for the past few years. But I'd much rather fly than drive long distances.

Benadryl is just an OTC antihistamine that is often used for allergies, skin rashes and itching, but it has the annoying side effect of drowsiness. In fact, many doctors used to prescribe it at bedtime as a sleeping aid. Concentrate on the enjoyable time you are going to have when you get there, and relax. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
