There are some strange laws still on the books here too. Up until not too long ago (and I don't know but it may still be the same now) on the back of our marriage licence in Canada it had a list of who a man was forbidden to marry and then there was a list stating who a woman wasn't allowed to marry. Just for example, a man wasn't allowed to marry his mother, his mother in law, his sister, his aunt, his sister in law, his niece, his grandmother, on and on. The lawmakers legislated against a man marrying about 20 other women and the same for a woman.
