 Looking back through history and how gays have had to basically hide who they are from society, personally I feel very proud that things have finally advanced so that same s*x marriage has been legalized during my lifetime.

 Marriage is a possibility, not an obligation. Some gays will choose it, others won't. Marriage does make adoptions easier for those couples that want children and from our experience over here on this side of the pond, the divorce rate has certainly not exploded.
