I DID go to the Climate Change Demonstration in Washington DC this weekend. I am a William Penn House Representative for our SAYMA (Southern Appalachian Yearly Meeting Association) group. This means I write a yearly report which determines how much money we give them which isn't a whole lot. I have been sitting in my girlfriend's Earth Care meetings and the cosmos are telling me that it's time to get off the bench so when she invited me to go to the demonstration with her I did. Now I have an invite to go lobbying with her. I have Metro Savvy and I have lobbied before.

Environmental issues are very a big deal in West Virginia. Big corporations come in - hiring people from outside the state - polluting the rivers - tearing apart the mountains and leave mess after lining their pockets with the money they made off it.

I don't care if a person is conservative or liberal - we all want clean water and clear air. Even conservatives will object when big corporation wants to seize their property in order to build pipelines that will carry fossil fuels that will be imported out with absolutely no benefits to West Virginia or American Citizens.

My Girlfriend was actually able to have a Eco-friendly house built that runs on solar energy. I went to Texas to learn how to build a Dome House but actually building one is not within my financial realities. There are changes that need to happen for the sake of our children and grandchildren. We may not be there but we can progress toward that direction. Progress not Perfection.

I certainly believe that our climate is changing.... whether you want to call it global warming or climate change.

I am less sure of the causes, although human activity is one. Years ago I read that one volcanic eruption spewed many times more 'stuff' into our atmosphere than human caused CO2 emissions. I'm sure that any efforts to reduce emissions will help the situation improve somewhat.

So the message is that it doesn't matter - Liberal versus Conservative. Both should care about eco-friendly. I went to Texas to learn about to build a Dome House and quickly learned that Green is not always cheaper at least initially. There are also building regulations that make it difficult. It is possible that Bush has more money and less stupid building regulations to deal with. Al Gore got bigger but he didn't couldn't afford better. It was suggested that I move to Texas where building codes are more reasonable. I have more reasons to stay out of Texas versus moving there so I will stay where I am at. I did sell my big energy guzzling house in favor of a smaller more energy efferent apartment.

My ideal home would be a tiny house in the woods close to the metro and within walking distances from the Library of Congress and Folger Theatre.

I think the world can handle a bit of extra carbon better than the radiation from Chernobyl and Fukushima. Pacific is dying but not much is being said about it. We'll probably make ourselves extinct via radioactivity before carbon does us in, if carbon is even really a problem.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Even if climate changes is a hoax versus a reality, treating Mother Earth with a tad bit more kindness is going to benefit humankind regardless.
