I have met atheists who don't care what others believe at all, they just know that they don't believe God exists.
I had one sweet old fella, who came to the day room to listen to the children sing and sat through the little sermon my husband shared. We went around the room and asked each person if they wanted prayer for anything. When I got to him, he just shook his head and said, "No thanks. I've lived my life not believing in God, I reckon I'll die that way." A couple of weeks later, he called me to his room (I worked nights) and asked me to tell him more about God and Jesus, and then asked me to pray with him. I led him in the sinner's prayer and watched a peace come over him like never before.
And then, there are those whom I think are called agnostics? They aren't sure, but they don't deny that God could exist.
I think the ones we have in here are more in the anti-theist category.

But how can you be so sure children and indigenous people don't have beliefs [whatever 'beliefs' are] Dan? Don't people instinctively have a 'sense' of the religious/sacred with some more closely attuned than others [e.g. children and 'indigenous' people]?

The fact that some religious people believe that atheists are anti-Christian and anti-God is also just a claim about their state of mind.

It seems they've chosen to believe this without any foundation whatsoever. Although they say they believe in freedom of choice, they deny others those freedoms.
One of the oddities I've noticed is that all of the main religions on earth condemn the others even though they share many of the same beliefs and, yes, sometimes prejudices.

As for me, I don't care whether people are religious or not, I am not anti-God, anti-religion or anti anything else. What I absolutely abhor are those people who profess strong belief in any religion then go on to condemn, belittle and decry those who don't conform to their narrow idea of what they should be.

It's not what they believe that's wrong, but how they interpret and live it

A few extra points.

1...For someone to be "anti-theist" they'd have to believe that there is at least one supreme being...so they can't be atheist. There must be some sort of belief there, even if they're denying it. That stands to reason, surely? After all, it's a statement of fact.

2...People who believe in freedom of choice cannot then condemn those who make different choices from them, I'm sure you must agree with that, it's also a statement of fact.

3...None of us have to like the choices others make, but neither do we have to condemn them. There are negatives and positives in everything in life, they exist... another fact.

All my life I have worked and mixed with all sorts of people, Christians, Muslims, atheists, liberals, socialists...believers and non believers. Even American Republicans. All of us doing the same thing
working to help people in the best way we could. Absolutely none of us ever questioned who or what the people we helped were, we just did what we felt was right. Together as humans.

After all that, I come into SFF and see people who profess belief in God and freedom of choice insulting, condemning, belittling and hating those who "chose wrong" "in their eyes". Blaming it on their religious beliefs. Yet, when I protest, they call me "God hater, anti-Christian, and attacker"

All I can say is that if I am a "lost soul" what are all those folk? They can't even treat each other with respect. The stock excuse is "humans are not perfect" God say's so.

Seems some are more perfect than others though! What right do they have to feel they are "better" than atheists, or anyone else for that matter?

Dan, tell me please...how is it possible for someone be a "God-hater" when they don't have one iota of belief in the existence of God?

We can see how religious people interpret the word of whichever God they believe in. And, for me at least, it is entirely against all of my values and standards.

Religion, as interpreted and practised by man is the main method of discrimination and divisionism.

It boils down to a competition for power,

I WANT NO PART OF THAT.

I'm an agnostic and anti-christian.
Christianity is a religion based on myth.
I tend to be agin any belief system that lacks evidence.
